Jamie Breyette scores twice and Ian Stanton, Ryan Lynch, Kelley Longshore and David Kopits each add a goal as Plattsburgh High School defeats Fox Lane 6-2 in the state hockey quarterfinals.

Shae Gilmore, Stacey Miner, Steph Varin, Jamie Milne and Christa Shippee lead Northern Adirondack to a 3-1 win over Lafayette (Section III). The Bobcats become the first Section VII team to win a regional volleyball title. PHS loses to Marcellus 3-1 in the regional Class B final.

Malone’s Tyler McGibbon records his 155th victory, tying Paul Pfaff for the school career mark for wrestling wins.

Beekmantown’s Josh Howard upsets Peru’s Caleb Remillard at 125 pounds to win the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award. However, Peru pulls out a 213-202 win over the Eagles to claim the Section VII title. Morgan Remillard, Joe Millett, Matt Hart, Max Rock, Ben Collins and Josh Rock win titles for Peru.

Mary Buckley scores 10 points and grabs 19 rebounds while Heidi Christon chips in with 14 points to lead Saranac to its first Section VII Class B title in 23 years with a 48-41 win over PHS.

Brynn Fessette scores 19 points and Katelyn Mockry adds 11 as Seton Catholic shocks unbeaten Ticonderoga 47-43 to claim the Class C crown.

Haley Hudgens collects 7 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals as Westport tops Bolton 33-23 for its ninth straight Class D title and 14th in 15 years.

Anthony English tosses in 18 points to lead Saranac to a 56-44 win over Peru for the boys’ Class B crown.

Steven Thomas nets 20 and grabs 17 rebounds as NAC downs Seton Catholic 48-37 for the Class C title.

Mike Fernandez hits for 21 points as Moriah stages a big fourth-quarter rally to defeat Bolton 73-70 in the Class D final.

20 YEARS AGO (1993)

Mark Bogucki scores 21 points and Nate O’Hara, 15, as Platttsburgh High defeats Peru 62-52, in overtime, to win the Section VII Class B title. Chris Hartmann scores 19 and grabs 10 rebounds for Peru.

Tom Welch contributes 19 points, 8 blocked shots, 7 rebounds and 3 steals to Saranac’s 47-39 win over Ticonderoga in the Class C final. Richie Plumadore chips in with 16 while Eric Dedrick scores 11 for Ticonderoga.

Doug Allen and Randy Pertak each tally 12 points to lead a balanced attack as Crown Point trumps Westport 60-56 for the Class D crown. J.J. Alexander and Matt Brankman score 17 apiece for the Eagles.

Becky Getman of Northwood High School and Plattsburgh wins the open giant slalom at the Empire State Winter Games.

Suzanne Frenyea pours in 31 points to lead Beekmantown to a 66-48 win over Seton Catholic in the girls’ Class B final. Mariellen Hentgen adds 13 while Jane Nicknish and Nicole Purick score 13 apiece for Seton.

Ann Parks nets 19 points and Amy Flick, 11, as Saranac downs Northeastern Clinton 50-36 in the Class B final. Katie Castine scores 19 points and grabs 21 rebounds for the Cougars.

Erin Pratt tallies 14 points and blocks 8 shots while Mika Conley chips in with 17 points to lead Westport to a 37-30 win over Crown Point for its fifth straight Class D crown. Karen Dushane leads the Panthers with 12 points.

25 YEARS AGO (1988)

Mark Goldman and Jason Andrus lead PHS to a 43-40 victory over Malone, capping an unbeaten season for the Hornet swimmers. Pete Allen and Ed Hoit pace the Huskies.

Joey Ferras sets the college record for career points (353) but Oswego wins 7-5 in front of 2,558 to snap a string of 10 straight losses to Plattsburgh State in hockey. Paul Mueller records 52 saves in goal for the Lakers.

Plattsburgh State junior Donna Dixon is named SUNYAC Player of the Year in women’s basketball. Dixon shares the conference leading in scoring (19.3) and is first in 3-point and free-throw shooting percentage.

John Stewart, Pat Cannon and Brian Turman of Clinton Community College are named to the All-Region III team in hockey.

Tim Lamay scores 19 points to spark Brushton-Moira to a 44-40 win over Chateaugay in the Section X Class D2 final. Kevin Burke leads the Bulldogs with 17.

30 YEARS AGO (1983)

Mark McIntyre scores 20 points and Gary Manning, 14, to lead Ticonderoga past Plattsburgh High 56-51 in the CVAC championship game. Angelo Sutton leads PHS with 16.

John Gillett, Pete Sullivan, Brian Atwood and Tim Kelley score goals and Kyle King stars in goal as PHS defeats Northeastern Clinton 4-2 to win the Section VII Class A hockey title.

Bob Wilkins and Diana Johnson lead AuSable Valley to a sweep of the Section VII boys and girls bowling titles.

Neil Fesette scores 34 points to lead St. John’s to an 87-60 win over Moriah.

Jon Konowitz’s North Country CC Saints bow to SUNY Morrisville 88-81 in the NJCAA Region III finals. Larry Gnass scores 24 points and Tod Weaver, 16, for the Saints.

40 YEARS AGO (1973)

Playing before an estimated 4,000 fans at the PSUC Field House, Saranac completes a remarkable turnaround from an 0-16 season in 1971 to a CVL championship season with a 56-41 win over PHS. Butch Butchino scores 18 points and grabs 17 rebounds for the Chiefs (17-0) while Tom Tobin chips in with 11 points and 16 rebounds. Mark Garrow scores 15 points and Scott deOgburn, 13, for PHS.

Jim Perkins pumps in 33 points and grabs 19 rebounds to lead Plattsburgh State to its first victory over Cortland in eight years, 82-71. Bob Finney adds 19 and Don Verkey, 12.

Gail Ralph wins 2 events while Plattsburgh Swim Club teammates Rich Dilzer, Stephanie Perkins, Tom Tobin and Leslie Tobin each win one in the club’s invitational.

Penn State football coach Joe Paterno speaks before a crowd of 300-plus at a Plattsburgh testimonial for former MAI and Nittany Lion standout Gregg Ducatte. A 2-year starter at safety for Penn State, Ducatte played in the Orange, Sugar and Cotton bowls.

50 YEARS AGO (1963)

Ellenburg wins the Section VII wrestling championship, ending Saranac’s four-year reign. Repeat champions include Ellenburg’s Bob Sunderland (157), Plattsburgh’s Bob Brown (148), Clarence McGee (115) of Peru, Saranac’s Ron Miller (141) and Bob Torrence (168) of AuSable Forks. Saranac’s Carl Goddeau (136) is voted the tournament’s outstanding wrestler.

Plattsburgh’s Roxie Coryer and Debbie LaBombard win the New York State midget and peewee girls titles in speedskating.

Larry LaBarge scores 19 points, Larry LaFave adds 18 and Gary LaBarge, 13, as Ellenburg finishes 17-0 win a 78-46 thrashing of Dannemora.

Plattsburgh’s Norris LaCasse and Pauline Stark qualify for the televised Utica Club State Bowling Championships.

60 YEARS AGO (1953)

Art Tyler and Ed Seymour of Rochester set a Mount Van Hoevenberg 2-man course record of 1:17.67 on their way to the North American Bobsled title. Lake Placid’s Stan Benham, with teammates Jim Atkinson, John Helmer and Pat Martin, captures the 4-man bobsled crown.

Galen Bruso fires in 44 points to spark Lyon Mountain to a 96-76 victory over Mooers.

Ernie Hargett scores 20 points and Bill Brennan, 18, as Mineville captures the Essex County League championship with a 68-59 win over AuSable Forks. George Kurz scores 16 for the AuSable.

Hebert’s 27-point effort leads Mooers to a 62-53 win over Altona. Vevia scores 19 in a losing cause.

70 YEARS AGO (1943)

Don Clemons scores 10 points as Plattsburgh High wins its 11th in a row, beating Rouses Point 26-16. Nolette and Gaines score 5 each for Rouses Point.

A. LaRose tallies 21 points to spark Morrisonville to a 50-34 win over St. Mary’s of Champlain.

Herbert Stratton scores 15 points in Mooers’ 44-40 win over Morrisonville.

Champlain gets 21 points from E. Craig in a 42-14 triumph over Ellenburg.
