B'town, Lake Placid post shutouts

FORT COVINGTON — The long trip to Salmon River apparently didn’t have much affect on the Beekmantown girls’ hockey team.

The Eagles (2-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period, scoring two goals in the first 1:41 of the game, to secure a 5-0 victory over the Shamrocks in a non-league contest.

“We had a good run,” Beekmantown coach Ray Guay said. “They girls played well. The first two shifts we scored goals right off … we got a quick jump.

“We laid back a bit in the second, but we came out strong again in the third.”

Alexis Guay led the way for the Eagles with a pair of third-period goals. Emily Raville added a goal and an assist, while Kallie Villemaire and Katie Matott each found the back of the net. Clara Giroux, Ashley Terry and Amanda Peterson all finished with an assist.

Beekmantown outshot Salmon River 45-9 in the game.

Decca Leroux was able to keep the Shamrocks in the game with 40 saves in net. Kayleigh Bell picked up her first career shutout with nine saves in goal for the Eagles.

Beekmantown is back on the ice Friday for a home contest against Saranac Lake, its first league game of the season.
