SARANAC LAKE — David Haye nailed five three-pointers in the second half Sunday and led the Onondaga Community College men’s basketball team to a 92-84 victory over North Country Community College.
Haye finished with 23 points in all as the Lazers, bouncing back from Saturday’s loss at Clinton Community College, ended the Saints’ three-game winning streak. Haye scored 27 points against the Cougars the day before.
North Country is now 8-2 on the season.
Tyler Wood added 14 points, Adam Misener 13 and Tyler Bliss 12, including eight from the foul line, for Onondaga, which scored 60 of its 92 points over the final 20 minutes of play.
Michael Boyea poured in 24 points for the Saints, while Steven Carder added 19 and Steve Poulter 10.
“We got into foul trouble and they hit some shots,” North Country coach Chad LaDue said. “We held a four-point lead (34-30) at the half and still had the lead with six minutes to go. But Haye hit four three-pointers in a short span.”
LaDue also said his team didn’t shoot the ball well in the game.
“We made only four three-pointers and hit just 12-for-22 from the line, with some of those misses the front ends of one-and-ones,” LaDue said.
The Saints still fought throughout the game, though.
“Our guys, however, fought to the end,” LaDue said. “We got good play out of our bench in the first half and I made a bad coaching decision by not going to the bench enough in the second half.”
The Saints now hit the road for four games in six days, including a 7 p.m. contest at Columbia-Greene Community College Tuesday.
