Annual Bobcat Shootout this weekend
ELLENBURG — The 25th-Annual Bobcat Shootout, a boys’ basketball tournament hosted by Northern Adirondack Central School, will be played tonight and Saturday.
Section X rivals Chateaugay and St. Lawrence Central will take the court at 6:30 p.m. tonight. For the first time since the 1990-91 season, Ron Boyea will not be coaching the Bulldogs — the New York State Hall of Famer has passed the torch after 21 years. Chateaugay will be looking to win back-to-back Shootout titles for the first time since 1990, when new head coach Mike Martin was a player. The Larries are coming off their first trip to the state playoffs after winning the Section X Class C title a season ago.
The second game will feature Northern Adirondack against Northeastern Clinton. Northeastern Clinton has been one of the most successful programs in recent years under the direction of coach Robb Garrand. Northern Adirondack is looking to bounce back from a challenging season a year ago and will lean heavily on senior Colby Sayah.
On Saturday, the consolation is at 4 p.m., followed by the championship contest. The junior varsity teams will play 90 minutes before the varsity teams in the newly constructed Middle School gym on both days.
