CORTLAND — After recording numerous ECAC-qualifying times throughout the 2013 Plattsburgh State women’s indoor track and field season, seniors Colleen Coon and Amanda Schermerhorn continued their streak of strong performances at the SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday and picked up nods to the All-SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Second Team in the process.
A native of Penfield, N.Y., Coon has qualified for the ECAC Championships in no less than three events during the 2013 indoor campaign. In Saturday’s action, she recorded a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with an ECAC-qualifying time of 17:58.75.
Coon will also be competing in the distance medley as well as the 3,000-meter run at the ECAC Championships.
Already ensured a spot in some four events at the ECAC Championships, Schermerhorn turned in another great performance at the SUNYAC meet. The Scotia, N.Y., product was clocked in a time of 5:03.04 during her second-place finish in the mile run. Her time was fast enough to be considered an ECAC qualifier.
In addition to the mile run, Schermerhorn will also be competing in the 800-meter dash, 1,000-meter run and distance medley at ECACs.
The individual event winners at the SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team while the athletes who placed second are recognized on the All-Conference Second Team.
Coon and Schermerhorn will lead a number of Plattsburgh State athletes to the ECAC Championships in New York City this weekend. The two-day event will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday at the New Balance Armory Track and Field Center.
Shearer lands on
All-SUNYAC Second Team
CORTLAND — The only member of the Plattsburgh State men’s indoor track and field team to record an ECAC-qualifying time during the SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships last Saturday, junior Adam Shearer was named to the All-SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Second Team it was announced by the league office today.
