Plattsburgh State Gena Rosenbaum is named to the All-SUNYAC First Team for women’s soccer. The former Seton Catholic standout, who has 13 goals and 7 assists her first season, also shares SUNYAC Freshman of the Year honors.
Bethany Friedrich scores the goal and Kristin Filion makes 11 saves in net as Chazy beats Harrisville 1-0 to reach the Final Four in Class D girls’ soccer.
Freshman Corey Lewis scores twice and Ian Laurin, once, to send the Chazy boys on to the Final Four with a 3-1 victory over New Lebanon.
Peru, trailing for the first time all season, roars back to beat OFA 52-6 behind game MVP Matt Bezio, who completes 14 of 19 passes for 221 yards and 4 touchdowns. Mike Oertel is the defensive MVP and Matt St. Clair, the offensive MVP.
Senior Nicole LaBarge earns 4 firsts to lead Peru to its second straight Section VII girls’ swimming title.
Josh Peloquin comes in 24th to pace the Salmon River boys to the Class D championship in state cross country.

Lynn McGrath scores midway through the first half and Kim Laframboise records the shutout as Northeastern Clinton beats Potsdam 3-0 to advance in Class C girls’ soccer.
Jim Bushey gets a goal and assists on Jason Moulton’s score as Northern Adirondack moves on in boys’ Class C with a 2-0 win over Norwood-Norfolk.
Joe Edwards runs for 154 yards and 4 TDs to lead Beekmantown past AuSable Valley 43-6.
Scott Nicholas scores 4 touchdowns and Paul Burns, 3, as Saranac Lake thumps arch-rival Tupper Lake 56-0.
Ryan Sherman scores the tieing goal and then adds the game-winner in overtime as Westport knocks off Chazy 3-2 in the Section VII Class D final.
Plattsburgh State’s Chris Waterbury is named SUNYAC Coach of the Year in men’s soccer for the second time in three years after leading the Cardinals to a 16-1-4 season. They reach the NCAA Northeast Regional final before falling to RIT 2-1 in sudden-death overtime.
25 YEARS AGO (1987)
John Blanchard hooks up with Steve McCormick on an 18-yard TD toss in the fourth quarter, giving Saranac Lake a 7-0 win over St. John’s.
Jenny Drollette scores the only goal in the special shootout to lift Saranac to a 4-3 win over Beekmantown in the Section VII Class C final. Jodi Cane, Carrie Jerry and Aundi Parks score for the Chiefs while Angela Towle scores twice for the Eagles and Faith Miller, once.
Kathy Brandell-Champagne comes in fifth among the women in the Columbus (Ohio) Marathon with a time of 2 hours, 47:18 minutes.
Steve White sets up Keith Mason for one goal and Mark Deresky adds another as Peru stuns previously unbeaten Gloversville 2-1 in the Class B regionals in soccer. Anson Bradford also comes up big in goal for the Indians with 23 saves.
John Scroggins, Tina Purcell, Brian Premore, Niki Purcell and John Shepard combine on a 1,217 score to finish in the top 10 in the nation in Youth Bowling Major Mixed team competition.
Craig King hits Jim Phillips with 2 scoring passes and runs in another to lead St. John’s to a 28-12 win over PHS.

Pete Ewald runs for 3 scores and Tom Daly comes up with 2 big interceptions as undefeated Peru clinches its second CVAC title in three seasons with a 27-8 win over previously unbeaten PHS.
John Jolicoeur passes 15 yards to Robert LePage for a touchdown and runs 2 yards for another score while Shannon Carter rushes for 187 yards in Beekmantown’s 14-0 win over St. John’s.
Mel Wisotzke and Ginny Carpenter score goals as Plattsburgh State defeats Colgate University 2-1 to capture third place in the New York State Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NYSAIAW) soccer tournament.
Jolene Papke and Theresa Bobal each claim 3 firsts to lead Peru to its fourth consecutive Section VII swimming championship.
Theresa Landry, 12, an eighth-grader at Beekmantown, earns the bronze medal for Intermediate Ladies at the North Atlantic Figure Skating Championships.
Pete DeArmas scores 7:28 into overtime to lift Plattsburgh State to a 4-3 win over Vermont in men’s hockey. John Swift, Frank Zakrajsek and Dave Rattray also score for the Cardinals.
Freshman Renee Courneene sets school records for the 200 IM and 100 backstroke and Lisa Maynard claims 3 firsts to lead Plattsburgh State to a 78-44 victory over Russell Sage in women’s swimming.
Walsh College junior sweeper Kevin Trombley, a former MAI standout, earns conference and district honors in men’s soccer.
40 YEARS AGO (1972)
Ken Deon scores twice and Mickey Carpenter and John LaMare, once each, as St. John’s defeats Moriah 25-0 to cap an unbeaten season and extend its two-year winning streak to 17 games.
Freshman Dave Holmes scores on a one-yard run late in the game, lifting Plattsburgh State to a 14-7 win over previously unbeaten Albany State. Tim White hits Chris Cringle with a 20-yard TD pass as the Cardinals go on to finish 6-2 for their first season of varsity football.
Steve Oakley kicks field goals of 21 and 42 yards to lead Beekmantown to a 13-7 win over Ticonderoga.
Rick Perry runs for touchdowns of 21 and 19 yards to spark MAI to a 27-0 win over AuSable Valley.
50 YEARS AGO (1962)
Carl King passes for 4 TDs and 2 conversions to spur OLVA to a 26-25 upset of St. John’s. Richie Daul scores twice for the Purple Foxes.
Dave Gilbo and Billy Duquette each run for 2 scores in Moriah’s 32-6 win over AuSable Valley.
Don Fairley runs for 3 touchdowns and Leon Angevine, two, as Peru thumps Beekmantown 46-6 to finish 7-1, its best season in 4 years of football.
Austrian Olympic skier Karl Fahrner is named director of the Whiteface Mountain Ski School.
60 YEARS AGO (1952)
Clevice Fessette’s fourth-quarter interception sets up a Dave Cronin to Jim Ryan 50-yard scoring strike that lifts St. John’s to a 19-13 win over Port Henry. Ron Cote and Jerry deGrandpre also score for the Irish while Lou Phinney and George Maffay counter for the Porters.
Macey Shapiro blocks a punt and John Sheridan recovers in the end zone with 2 minutes to play as MAI rallies to beat PHS 14-13. Ray Everleth’s successful point-after provides the margin of victory. Bob Gload also scores for the Mount while Wayne Benson runs for one PHS score and passes to Merritt for another. Benson hooks up with Whitey Sveinbjornsson for a point after.
70 YEARS AGO (1942)
A Spinks to Rousseau TD pass lifts MAI to a 6-0 victory over PHS before a sizeable crowd for the annual Armistice Day battle.
