PLATTSBURGH — Nathan Foster’s goal with 44 seconds gone in the third period Saturday night lifted Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys’ hockey champion Beekmantown to a 1-all overtime tie with Saranac Lake at the Ameri-Can North Sports Center.
The Eagles, who finished 8-1-1 in league play, clinched the CVAC title Friday night when Lake Placid defeated Plattsburgh High, 1-0.

“That’s three years in a row we’ve won the CVAC title and that’s a great accomplishment for our program,” said Beekmantown coach Justin Frechette. “You start in November and it’s a true mark of a good team to play well from start to finish.
“But, now it’s a new season for us with the playoffs ready to begin.”
The Eagles had their hands full with the Red Storm, who needed a result like this to host a first-round playoff game.
“I give Saranac Lake a lot of credit,” said Frechette. “They came out and were able to create some scoring chances.”
It remained a scoreless game, however, until Grant Strack put Saranac Lake in front, with Christian Thomas assisting, with 45 seconds left in the second period.
Foster then drew the Eagles even in the first minute of the third, with Cole Carter picking up the assist.
“We didn’t play our system in the second period,” said Frechette. “The effort was there, but we didn’t always play smart.
“We came out in the third and got the early goal to tie it. We had several other chances to score in the third. I was proud of the team because they were able to dig themselves out of the hole.”
The Eagles finished with a 34-24 shot advantage. Blake Darrah finished with 33 saves in the Saranac Lake nets, while Dustin Plumadore made 23 stops for Beekmantown.
“Darrah played an excellent game for them,” said Frechette.
Beekmantown will be the top seed and Plattsburgh High the second seed heading into the playoffs.
The Eagles get a first-round bye and will host a Section VII semifinal on Thursday at the Ameri-Can North Sports Center.
