Unbeaten Wildcats get scare from Eagles

SCHROON LAKE — Jesse Shaughnessy tossed in 21 points Friday night and Schroon Lake held on for a 56-53 win over upset-minded Chazy in Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference boys’ basketball.

Tanner Stone added 12 points, Jeff Armstrong 10 and Alex Shaughnessy nine for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats got off to slow start, trailing by an 11-6 margin after one quarter before rallying for a 27-23 halftime lead.

Schroon Lake opened it up to a 44-36 advantage in the third before Chazy went on a 17-12 run in the fourth to make it interesting.

Brandon Laurin hit four 3-pointers and ended up with 15 points for the Eagles. Keenen Hampton was next with 12 and Hayden Guay added 11.

INDIAN LAKE — Senior Colin Farrell went off for 21 points, while teammates Henry Sandiford (12) and Curtis Seaman (10) combined for 22 in an Orange (8-4, 7-4) victory.

“Our great shooting from the perimeter gave us an early lead in the first quarter,” Indian Lake/Long Lake coach David Olbert said. “We were unable to extend an eight-point lead in the second half; they were always within reach. Gabe Macey is one heck of a ballplayer. Matt Moore and (Seaman) each rebounded well. (Sandiford) took command from the point.”

Macey paced the Panthers with 17 markers, including two 3-pointers.
