FA girls up to hoop Challenge

CHAMPLAIN — Marle Curle had a double-double with 31 points and 10 steals Saturday as the Plattsburgh High School girls’ basketball team recorded a 55-43 win over Massena in the Section VII vs. X Challenge.

Curle also had five rebounds for the Hornets (4-2), who held a 23-16 lead at the half.

Olivia Carlsson chipped in with 12 points for Plattsburgh and Brin Keyser contributed a team-high 11 rebounds.

Marissa Manley paced the Red Raiders with 20 points and Bailie Young followed with 14.

“We were up by close to 20 points in the second half,” said PHS coach Jim Manchester. “But Massena was missing two starters and they played hard.

“We played better than we did yesterday, but still have some things to clean up.”

Franklin Academy 43, NCCS 21

CHAMPLAIN — The Huskies jumped out to a 20-9 first-half lead against the cold-shooting Cougars (1-5).

Janelle Heden played a strong game for Franklin Academy with 10 points, while Morgan Fountain, Kristin Barrett and Emily Marshall all followed with eight apiece.

Skyler Hebert led Northeastern Clinton with nine points and Allie Cartier played a strong game on the boards in addition to her six points.

“Franklin Academy played well defensively, but we were very cold,” said NCCS coach Frank Dumas. “The girls played their hearts out and we had plenty of good looks. We shot just six-of-15 from the foul line.”
