HUDSON — The Clinton Community College softball team was able to start the 2013 season on time despite the recent weather.
The outcomes, however, were not what the Cougars were hoping for.
Columbia-Greene swept Clinton, 11-1 and 12-1, as the NJCAA softball season got underway Monday.
“It was the first game,” Cougars coach Sami Stoughton said. “They played with a lot of heart and dedication, but just didn’t have the bats today.”
The Twins’ Brittany Wilson picked up a pair of victories on the afternoon. Wilson struck out six while allowing five hits in the first game, and struck out four more with a two hitter in game two.
Hannah Simmons led the way for Columbia-Greene with a triple in game one. Rachel Vale, Karlee Moore and Danielle Lown each added a double.
Alyssa Rabideau paced Clinton with a double.
In game two, Simmons connected on two hits to lead the Twins. Molly Rascoe also had a pair of hits, the hits of the game for the Cougars.
“We had a lot of walks,” Stoughton said. “It seemed like whenever we had a walk someone would crack a double right after. They got lucky like that (Monday).
“We are definitely going to need to work on our hitting. We watched a lot today.”
Christina Darrah suffered the loss in both games for Clinton.
The Cougars are back at it on April 3 when they travel to Adirondack Community College at 3:30 p.m. for a doubleheader.
