Champagne, Gadway take first at CVAC championship

CADYVILLE — Seton Catholic’s Margaret Champagne covered the Cadyville Rec Park course in 19 minutes, 20 seconds to win the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference cross country championship meet Saturday.

Peru claimed the girls’ team title. Jeriqho Gadway won the boys’ meet, with Saranac taking the team championship.

Peru’s Ashley Leta placed second in the girls’ race, 18 second back. Meghan Mazzella took fourth for Peru in 20:23, and Liz Uliva finished ninth. The Indians recorded 30 points. Saranac was second with 75, and Seton Catholic had 91 to round out the top three.

Lexi Blockson led the Chiefs with a time of 20:24 and a fifth-place finish. Seton Catholic’s Melissa Whyman took ninth.

Saranac Lake’s Elena Beideck and Northeastern Clinton’s Samantha Smith also made the top 10.

Gadway took first in the boys’ race by clocking 16:11, 20 seconds faster than Seton Catholic’s Mitchell Ryan.

The Saranac boys finished with 30 points, led by Jason Wade with a third-place showing (16:42) and Zach LePage in sixth. Colin Qackenbush (fourth, 16:58) and Jonathan Graziane (ninth) paced Beekmantown to second place (66 points). Javeed Nazir finished fifth in 17:05 and teammate Tyler Belden was 10th, helping Ticonderoga finish third in the team standings with 93 points.

Seton Catholic’s Evan Page and Peru’s Kyler Agoney were also in the top 10.
