PLATTSBURGH — Home cooking turned out to be very good for the Clinton Community College men’s basketball team over the weekend.
The Cougars, following up on Saturday’s 82-67 victory over Cayuga Community College, recorded an 85-72 win over Onondaga Community College on Sunday.
“These were two big Region III games for us against two good teams,” Clinton C.C. coach Kevin Daugherty said.
Bayron Carter, Mykelle Krecko and Jamie Davison combined to score 68 points in the victory.
Carter finished with 26 points, seven assists and five steals for the Cougars (9-2, 6-2), while Krecko added 22 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, and Davison, 20 points, four steals and five assists.
Tom Ryan chipped in with eight points and 10 rebounds for Clinton C.C. and Kyree Hull nine points.
“Krecko and Ryan did a good job on the boards and this was probably Ryan’s best all-around game for us,” Daugherty said. “We did a good job on the boards both games over the weekend.”
The Cougars held a 47-36 halftime lead.
“We played well,” Daugherty said. “It went back-and-forth for about the first six minutes before we went on a little run. We never trailed after that.”
Davison then made sure Clinton wasn’t going to lose its lead in the second half.
“They came out with a triangle-and-two on Carter and Hull in the second half,” Daugherty said. “That’s when Davison took over.
“We led by as many as 22 points and the closest they were able to get down the stretch was 12 points.”
The Lazers used 15 players in the game and former Franklin Academy standout Ben Honahan led the team with 12 points. Kyle Kline and Lloyd Parkmond each added nine points for Onondaga C.C., which hit 11 3-pointers.
The Cougars are at SUNY Delhi on Saturday.
