Keene, Schroon Lake win in boys' NBL openers

MINERVA — Keene opened a 30-12 first-half lead on its way to defeating Minerva/Newcomb 55-32 in boys’ Northern Basketball League play Tuesday.

Keene’s Brandon Dumas led all scorers with 22 points, and Colton Venner (12) and Austin Brown (10) were also in double figures.

Alex Ruzbacki led Minerva/Newcomb with 12 points.

CROWN POINT — Tanner Stone scored 18 points and the Wildcats’ defense was stingy.

Joe Maisonville added 11 points for Schroon Lake, and Alex Shaughnessy scored nine.

Jaice Spring had five points for Crown Point, which was held to just six points after halftime.

SARANAC LAKE — The Red Storm used a 14-point second quarter to pull away and then stretched their lead by holding the Lumberjacks scoreless in the third.

Katie Buckley had 11 points for Saranac Lake in the nonleague game, and Jenny Ward contributed eight.

Tupper Lake’s Katie Zurek scored seven.

MINERVA — Makenzie Winslow tossed in 18 points to lead the Mountaineers past the Blue Bombers in NBL action.

The Mountaineers pulled ahead early and held a 52-15 advantage by halftime.

Astasia Myler added 16 points and nine rebounds for Minerva/Newcomb, and Gabrielle McNally scored 10 and also pulled down nine boards.

Cheyenne Blair paced the Blue Bombers with 15 points, and Erica Weaver had 10.
