E Crown Point's David Potter wins both games of a doubleheader with Chazy, pitching a 2-hit shutout in the opener.

▶ Evan Bruno captures 4 firsts while Elliot Luscombe and Alex Manabat each claim 3 to help PHS turn back Tupper Lake 77-55 in track.

▶ Peru's Chris Henderson equals the section record for the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.8 and also runs a season-best 2:06.6 for the 800.

▶ Maria Merlo bests Annie Davis in 3 sets to help Seton Catholic edge Saranac 2-1 in a battle of tennis unbeatens.

▶ Jess Gadway delivers an RBI double and scores the deciding run on an error while Lori Babbie pitches a 4-hitter in Northeastern Clinton's 2-1 win over Ticonderoga.

▶ Sophomore Fallon Woods pitches a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts in her first varsity start as Crown Point downs Schroon Lake 11-0.

▶ Miguel Maldonado of PHS belts 2 home runs in one inning as PHS thumps Ticonderoga 25-7.

20 YEARS AGO (1992)

E Westport's Julie Moore is named New York State Player of the Year for Class D basketball after averaging 27.8 points per game. Seton Catholic's Suzy Paiser lands on the 4th team for Class B.

▶ Dan Tatro shoots a 3-over 35 to lead Moriah to a 4-2 victory over previously unbeaten Peru in golf.

▶ The CVAC produces 3 pitching gems in one day: Saranac Lake's Jason Wamsganz no-hits Tupper Lake, Pete Longley pitches a one-hitter for Peru against Saranac, and Brett Paepke and Zeke Perras combine on a one-hitter for PHS against NCCS.

▶ Section VII football coaches rejoice as New York approves state championship playoffs, beginning with the 1993 season.

▶ Peru's Sara Facteau nips Patty McCormick of Seton Catholic in a record-setting 800-meter showdown. Both break the old mark with Facteau finishing in 2:18.0 and McCormick in 2:20.

▶ Ticonderoga's Liz DeFranco strikes out 9 of the first 10 batters she faces on her way to a 13-strikeout effort in a 7-1 win over Peru.

▶ Jim Covey strikes out 11 batters in 5 innings and combines with Dave Betrus on a 2-hitter in Peru's 3-1 win over Ticonderoga.

25 YEARS AGO (1987)

E Jeff Jiampetti connects on a 3-run homer and Gary Campbell adds a 2-run shot as St. John's knocks off previously unbeaten MAI 11-5.

▶ Laura Froehlich and Lara Deresky each take 3 firsts to lead Peru to a 68-64 win over Saranac Lake in track. Glenda Hess is a triple winner for the Redskins.

▶ Tom Cummings knocks in 6 runs with a pair of homers in MAI's 8-6 win over AuSable Valley. Kevin Parrow plates 3 with a home run and triple for the Patriots.

▶ Bill Taylor's 2-run single in the sixth lifts Schroon Lake over Elizabethtown-Lewis 7-5.

▶ Darin Weightman drives in 3 runs with 3 hits to lead Dannemora past Keene 6-1.

▶ Tina Carlson collects 4 hits and scores the winning run in Westport's 11-10 victory over Lake Placid.

30 YEARS AGO (1982)

▶ Plattsburgh High's Paula Maynard tallies 2,435 points to break the Malone Invitational pentathlon record.

▶ Frank Miller pitches a 4-hitter with 14 strikeouts and Eric Fuller goes 3-for-4 to lead St. John's over Beekmantown 4-2. Paul LaRock fans 12 in a losing effort.

▶ Cher Hough's one-hitter and Eileen Roach's 3-run homer lead Peru past host Malone 14-0 in the Huskies' softball invitational final.

▶ Scott Luck goes 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI as Beekmantown upends previously unbeaten MAI 5-2.

▶ Mike Corbo sweeps the hurdles and wins the long jump to lead Ticonderoga to a 77-64 win over Peru. Scott Lucy captures the 1,600 and 3,200 and adds a first in the 3,200 relay for Peru.

▶ Betsy Trombley goes 6-for-6 with 11 RBI and pitches a 4-hitter in Northeastern Clinton's 23-8 win over Ticonderoga.

▶ Matt Dumas triples and scores the tieing run and Jay Dumas scores on a bases-loaded walk to give Keene a 2-1 win over Schroon Lake in a battle of unbeatens.

▶ Cathy Roach of St. John's shatters the girls' CVAC record for the discus by more than 15 feet with a throw of 123 feet, 2 inches.

▶ Norma Meade and Cindy Tyler each go 3-for-5 in Saranac Lake's 8-3 victory over Gouverneur.

40 YEARS AGO (1972)

▶ Dave Ghiloni pitches a one-hitter with Paul Trombley knocking in 3 runs and Mike Cross and Jim Millie 2 each in AuSable Valley's 10-2 win over Ticonderoga.

▶ Glen Lang drives in 4 runs with a pair of doubles and a single in Crown Point's 5-3 win over Keene.

▶ Russ Keller goes 2-for-3 and Fritz Tobrocke delivers a game-winning single in the seventh as PHS rallies to beat MAI 4-3. Paul O'Connell is 2-for-3 for the Mount.

▶ Terry LaGree strikes out 20 batters and pitches a one-hitter in Dannemora's 10-0 victory over Keene. Mark Bombard and Jim Beauchemin each rap out 2 doubles.

▶ Roger Barnard pitches a 2-hitter with 9 strikeouts and John Gratto drives in 6 runs with a pair of homers as Saranac defeats AuSable Valley 11-2.

▶ Larry Crow hurls a 2-hitter as Peru beats Moriah 2-0 in an early-season showdown of unbeatens.

▶ Bob Mitchell clubs a 310-foot homer over the center-field fence to spark Mineville to a 14-9 win over Port Henry.

▶ Rolland Bradt, Ken Little, John Nye and Larry Bradford combine on a no-hitter in Elizabethtown's 9-0 victory over AuSable Forks.

▶ Chris Rowlson gets 4 hits, Bob Miller socks a home run and Bernard Aguglia picks up the win in Plattsburgh High's 14-7 victory over MAI.

60 YEARS AGO (1952)

▶ Sam Marcotte pitches a 3-hitter with 12 strikeouts and helps his cause with 3 hits, including a home run, in Willsboro's 15-1 triumph over Schroon Lake.

Burlington High School defeats PHS 91-21 in track despite victories by Warren Munson in the shot put and discus and Tom Kilfoyle in the mile run.

▶ Frank Dukette pitches a 3-hitter with 15 strikeouts and delivers the game-winning hit in Dannemora's 4-3 win over OLVA. Bob Burdo tosses a 3-hitter with 12 strikeouts for the Purple Foxes.

▶ Ellis Rock and Jack Powell rap home runs in Peru's 10-7 triumph over Mineville.

▶ Bob Glode pitches a 5-hitter and Jim Brown hits a 2-run triple to lead MAI past St. John's 5-1. Dave Rock rips a homer for the Irish.

70 YEARS AGO (1942)

▶ Winning pitcher Fagan hurls a 3-hitter and joins Jarvis with 2 hits in St. John's 11-2 victory over PHS.

▶ Beauchemin pitches a 2-hit shutout for Cadyville in a 7-0 triumph over Ellenburg.
