10 YEARS AGO (2002)

E Crown Point's David Potter wins both games of a doubleheader with Chazy, pitching a 2-hit shutout in the opener.

▶ Evan Bruno captures 4 firsts while Elliot Luscombe and Alex Manabat each claim 3 to help PHS turn back Tupper Lake 77-55 in track.

▶ Peru's Chris Henderson equals the section record for the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.8 and also runs a season-best 2:06.6 for the 800.

▶ Maria Merlo bests Annie Davis in 3 sets to help Seton Catholic edge Saranac 2-1 in a battle of tennis unbeatens.

▶ Jess Gadway delivers an RBI double and scores the deciding run on an error while Lori Babbie pitches a 4-hitter in Northeastern Clinton's 2-1 win over Ticonderoga.

▶ Sophomore Fallon Woods pitches a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts in her first varsity start as Crown Point downs Schroon Lake 11-0.

▶ Miguel Maldonado of PHS belts 2 home runs in one inning as PHS thumps Ticonderoga 25-7.

20 YEARS AGO (1992)

E Westport's Julie Moore is named New York State Player of the Year for Class D basketball after averaging 27.8 points per game. Seton Catholic's Suzy Paiser lands on the 4th team for Class B.

▶ Dan Tatro shoots a 3-over 35 to lead Moriah to a 4-2 victory over previously unbeaten Peru in golf.

▶ The CVAC produces 3 pitching gems in one day: Saranac Lake's Jason Wamsganz no-hits Tupper Lake, Pete Longley pitches a one-hitter for Peru against Saranac, and Brett Paepke and Zeke Perras combine on a one-hitter for PHS against NCCS.

▶ Section VII football coaches rejoice as New York approves state championship playoffs, beginning with the 1993 season.

▶ Peru's Sara Facteau nips Patty McCormick of Seton Catholic in a record-setting 800-meter showdown. Both break the old mark with Facteau finishing in 2:18.0 and McCormick in 2:20.

▶ Ticonderoga's Liz DeFranco strikes out 9 of the first 10 batters she faces on her way to a 13-strikeout effort in a 7-1 win over Peru.
