snow pull for dogs set for Feb. 23-24

LAKE PLACID — The 8th-Annual Lake Placid snow pull for dogs will be held Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23 and 24 at the North Elba Show Grounds. This will be an International Weight Pull Association-sanctioned canine competition, with a weighted sled. Saturday’s competition will begin at 11 a.m., with Sunday’s event starting at 9:30 a.m.

A novice training clinic will be held Saturday afternoon following the sanctioned pull. Experienced dog handlers will conduct the clinic and some harnesses will be available for novice use. Dog owners who are interested in the clinic should contact Dan at 891-4413. Spectator admission is free.

Hunt, Hanley

roll 300 games

at North Bowl

PLATTSBURGH — Charles Hunt, bowling for Melissa’s Barber in the Weekenders League at North Bowl Lanes on Feb. 2, rolled the first 300 game of his bowling career. Hunt, who carries a 200 average, finished the evening with a 300-258-170-728 series.

Meanwhile, Thomas Hanley, bowling for 3 Men and a Craz in the North Country Mixed at North Bowl on Jan. 25, tossed his first-career 300. Hanley, who has a 192 average, ended up with a 648 triple.

McLaughlin, Hart fire 800 series

at North Bowl

PLATTSBURGH — Scott McLaughlin, bowling for Action Auto in the Industrial League at North Bowl Lanes on Feb. 7, rolled a 278-279-269-826 series. McLaughlin’s league average is 234.

Kevin Hart, bowling for Lady and the Tramps in the Mainely Lobster League on January 29 at North Bowl, tossed a 257-248-298-803 triple. Hart’s average is 221.

Dannemora K of C free-throw contest winners announced

DANNEMORA — The Dannemora Knights of Columbus Council #2166 recently held its annual free-throw contest.

Winners included Brandi Lavarnway, Victoria Bruno, Alivia Waldron, Griffin Williams, Joseph Webster and Stephen Miner.

The winners advanced to the next level in the state-wide competition.

Houle to be at Coaches Corner

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State Athletics Department, in conjunction with the Ground Round Grill & Bar, will host its fourth Coaches Corner event Wednesday, Feb. 20. The event is free and open to the public.

Plattsburgh State women’s hockey coach Kevin Houle will be on hand at the Ground Round to mingle with fans and answer questions about the 2012-13 season from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Plattsburgh baseball coach Kris Doorey will participate in a Coaches Corner on March 13.

Basic fly-tying course to be held

PLATTSBURGH — Lake Champlain Trout Unlimited is offering an introductory fly-tying course, starting Wednesday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m. at Gander Mountain Lodge. Classes will be held each week in March.

Trout Unlimited will provide tools, materials and instruction that will let you tie wet and dry fly patterns, nymphs, streamers and bucktails. The class is limited to 15 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
