CHAZY — The Beekmantown girls’ hockey team made it look easy, scoring three goals in a three-minute span during the first period Friday.
But it didn’t turn out to be all that easy in the Eagles’ 4-2 victory over Albany Academy, for the Upstate Girls’ Hockey League championship.

“We put together three good periods of hockey, but so did they,” Beekmantown coach Ray Guay said. “They were a different team than the one we saw at the beginning of the season.”
The Eagles (18-1-1) came out flying and grabbed a 3-0 lead.
It was Katie Matott from Kallie Villemaire at 4:00, Alexis Guay from Emily Raville and Amanda Peterson at 5:23, and Peterson off a Matott assist at 7:10.
“We jumped out of the box early,” Guay said. “But Albany Academy came to play. It was a fast-paced game.”
Albany Academy rallied in the second period on goals by Teagan Ketchum at 3:57 and Maura Mulligan at 6:21 to pull to within one.
But Peterson scored her second goal of the game with 23 seconds remaining in the second.
“For sure, I was nervous when they got to within 3-2,” Guay said. “But Peterson’s goal was a big one going into the third.
“We then went on the defensive in the third to keep their offense in check. Our forwards did a good job back checking and that was a key in the win.”
Beekmantown held a 27-13 shot advantage, with Kayleigh Bell making 11 saves in the Eagles’ nets. Zoe Shanon stopped 23 shots for Albany Academy.
The Eagles now move into state play where they will play a team out of Buffalo in the first round.
