Malone girls topple AuSable in basketball

CLINTONVILLE — Roger Long expected a good game from Franklin Academy of Malone, one of the top teams in Section X.

What the AuSable Valley girls’ basketball coach didn’t anticipate was the lackluster performance the Patriots put forth in losing 42-31 Monday afternoon.

It was a makeup of the game postponed from Jan. 7.

“They (Malone) beat us on all ends and in all aspects,” Long acknowledged, rather bluntly. “We came out flat. Some times, you find ways to encourage kids to dig down for that energy, but there was no response today.”

The Huskies (10-4) outscored the host Patriots (8-2) 13-9 after one quarter and continued to add to their lead.

Rachel Lamica and Janelle Heden each scored 10 points to lead Franklin Academy. Meghan Strong netted 15 and Logan Snow, 11, for the Patriots. Madison Rondeau, with five, was the only other AuSable player to score.

“When you only have three players score, that’s not good,” added Long, who has just eight players on his roster.

AuSable Valley returns to conference play on Thursday, hosting Saranac Lake.
