Averaging 19 points in each of the three games last week, Payne has increased her career point total to 931.

Payne’s points-per-game average of 15.2 is second only to Fredonia State’s Becky Hebert among SUNYAC players, and her rebounding average of seven per outing is 10th in the league.

Curle to Appear at Second Coaches

Corner Event

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State athletics department, in conjunction with the Ground Round Grill & Bar, will be hosting its second Coaches Corner event on Wednesday, Jan. 16. The event is free and open to the public.

From 5 to 7 p.m., Plattsburgh men’s basketball coach Tom Curle will be on hand at the Ground Round to mingle with fans and answer questions about the 2012-13 season.

The Cardinals have put together an 8-5 overall record halfway through their regular season schedule. They are tied for second place in the league standings.

Four more dates have been set for the 2013 Coaches Corner series.

Jan. 16 – Tom Curle (Men’s Basketball)

Feb. 13 – Cheryl Cole (Women’s Basketball)

Feb. 20 – Kevin Houle (Women’s Ice Hockey)

March 13 – Kris Doorey (Baseball)

K of C youth free-throw shoot Sunday

AUSABLE FORKS — The annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw contest for AuSable Forks and Peru youths will be held on Sunday, Jan. 20 at noon at Holy Name School in AuSable Forks. Boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are eligible to compete.

Winners can advance to higher levels of competition. Cadets at the West Point Academy will host the State Championship in April.

for Brushton

BRUSHTON — The North Country Blazers will host their 12th-annual youth basketball tournament March 22 to 24 at Brushton-Moira Central School. The event is for boys’ and girls’ teams in ninth grade and younger.

Entry fee is $200 per team with each team guaranteed three games. Entry fee should be paid prior to the tournament and can be mailed to: Brian Fairchild, 32 County Route 7, Brushton NY 12916.

A tournament for boys and girls grades 6 to 12 will be held April 26 to 28.
