Cougar women fall cold in second half

Mitchell connected on seven 3-pointers in the half as the Generals handed Clinton a men’s basketball loss.

“Herkimer is the No. 1 team in our region and currently No. 4 in the country,” Cougars coach Kevin Daugherty said. “They certainly played like it (Tuesday).

“They are very quick to the ball and strong; they shot an amazing percentage from three. The Mitchell kid hit all seven of his threes in the first half.”

Jonathan Feiler chipped in with 17 points for Herkimer, while Steve Whittingham connected on 11 points. Dequan Jefferson finished with nine points.

Chris Miller led the charge for Clinton (7-6, 5-5) with 19 points. Jamie Davison added 13 points and Kyree Hull tallied nine points. Newcomer Mike Campbell finished with six points.

“We didn’t take care of the ball and we shot very poorly,” Daugherty said. “There were a few stretches where we didn’t offer much resistance defensively.

“I wasn’t happy with the game, but this is a good group and I know they will bounce back.”

The Cougars will get a chance to bounce back against Columbia-Greene at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Clinton.
