The pair put AuSable Valley up, 40-33, and the Chiefs never recorvered from the deficit as the Patriots went on to win, 49-39, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference play.

Despite the 10-point difference, the game was close throughout. AuSable Valley coach Roger Long said scoring was back and forth.

“We came out on an 8-2 run to start the first quarter, but with five minutes left Saranc buckled down,” he said. “They outscored us, 3-1, in the last five minutes of the quarter. Both teams played great D.

“It was basically, they make a basket, we make a basket.”

At the end of the third quarter, AuSable led 33-27.

But the Chiefs kept it close, bringing the score to within three before Snow and Saltus salted it away.

Saltus led the Patriots with a game-high 15 points, Meghan Strong added 11 and Snow chipped in 10 points.

Sisters Kayla and Kristin Napper led the Chiefs with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Summer Gillespie followed with eight points.

“Saranac came out and played hard,” Long said. “It was a battle between both teams.”
