---- — Chazy Flyers teams seeking state titles
CHAZY— The Chazy Flyers team will be competing in this weekend’s NYSAHA Tier 3 Bantam hockey championship in Amherst. They (39-10-2) will open the eight-team tournament at 11:30 a.m. today against the Olean Arrows.
The Flyers will then play Millbrook, which beat them in the Peewee Major championship game two years ago, at 6 a.m. Saturday. Game 3 will be against the defending champion Onondaga Thunder at 5 p.m. The top four teams will advance to Sunday’s semifinals.
Chazy has played an aggressive “A” schedule this season in preparation for the State tournament. The Flyers went 5-0 in the Northern Zone sectional tournament in Tupper Lake two weeks ago.
The Chazy Peewee Major team also qualified for the state tournament. In addition, the
Chazy Lady Flyers U19 team will host the New York State Championship at Scotts’ Memorial Rink this weekend. The team is the defending state champion, and has a roster made up of many of the same girls that were members of the Beekmantown Eagles Upstate NY championship team.
Baseball opener at Old Westbury postponed
PLATTSBURGH — Due to poor weather conditions that are anticipated today, the Plattsburgh State baseball team has pushed back its season opener once again.
The Cardinals’ game at The College at Old Westbury has been postponed. A makeup date will be announced at a later time.
Tentatively, Plattsburgh will begin its 2013 season on Saturday against St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue, as part of the SUNYAC/Skyline Challenge. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at noon.
Plattsburgh Little League registration scheduled
PLATTSBURGH — The next Plattsburgh Little League player registration will be at 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at the Crete Center. That will be followed by a Plattsburgh Little League Board and Major League Coaches Meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
The final player registration and a free player clinic will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, March 17, at the Crete Center.
Major League tryouts will take place from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. April 10 to 12 at Penfield Park, weather permitting.

9-pin tourney in Mineville Sunday
MINEVILLE — Eagles Club 4410 of Ticonderoga will host a singles 9-pin tournament at the Mineville VFW lanes on Sunday. Entry fee is $20 per bowler. Two shifts will be available: noon and 3 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top finishers. Call the lanes at 942-3344 to sign up or register the day of the event.
Spin-a-thon/Walk-a-thon March 23
PLATTSBURGH — The Rehab Warriors are putting on a spin-a-thon/walk-a-thon to raise money for the Relay for Life at 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 23, at the CVPH Wellness Center. The cost is $15, and more donations are welcome. The spin bikes are first come, first serve, with a sign-up sheet at the Wellness Center front desk. Participants can also bring their own trainer and road bike. Those who don’t feel comfortable spinning/walking for three hours can relay it with a team.
CVPH rehabiliation will also be present to offer information regarding specialized services for running, posture/back care, vestibular rehabilitation, pelvic floor rehab and our pediatrics program. There will be baked goods for sale, a rehab recipe book and raffle tickets. Anyone can attend.
Rough Riders Rifle Team takes second
PLATTSBURGH — The Rough Riders Rifle Team from the Plattsburgh Rod and Gun Club took second place this week during Week 6 of league competition. The team fired a 1,563, which was 10 points behind first-place Whitehall. The team currently ranks second in the standings in the 13-team league.
The Rod and Gun Club Range is available Monday, Tuesday and Thursday night for practice. They provide all the equipment and coaching needed. The club also has a growing pistol program that meets on Wednesday and Friday. For more information, contact coach Peter Visconti at 298-7776.
