PLATTSBURGH — Peru’s Jonathan Bowman and the Beekmantown boys’ team made the biggest noise for Section VII at this past weekend’s NYSPHSAA Bowling Championships, held at Strike-n-Spare Lanes in Syracuse.
Bowman, competing for the Section VII all-star team, averaged an outstanding 229.3 for his six-game set while finishing with a 245-256-232-203-257-183-1376 total.

Bowman ended up third in the state in the all-star category, just one pin behind runner-up Nicholas Eckert from Section XI, who rolled a 1377 total. Taking first place was Section XI’s Nick Caruano with a 1450.
“Bowman had a good day,” Beekmantown coach Charlie Stone said. “He was on his game pretty much all day.”
Meanwhile, the Beekmantown boys placed sixth out of 11 teams with a 6068 total. Section II’s South Colonie was first with a 6511.
The Eagles’ Andrew Roberts tied for the third-highest game of the day with a 277. Bryce Hook from Section V’s Greece Athena rolled the high game of 297.
Roberts led Beekmantown with a six-game score of 1297, followed by Ryan Douglas with a 1281, Ryan Munson with a 1249 and Matt Dwyer with a 1200. Matt Corrow and Dennon Walantus rounded out the Beekmantown team.
Roberts averaged 216, while Douglas was at 213, Munson, 208 and Dwyer, 200.
“The boys practiced hard leading up to the states and gave a good effort,” Stone said. “They were on a mission because they wanted to get higher in the rankings. They worked hard as a group and put up some good scores.
“This is the highest we’ve finished in quite a while.”
The Beekmantown girls had a tougher time of it, though, as the Eagles finished 10th out of 11 teams with a 4594 total. Section XI’s Middle Country won the competition with a 6053.
Harley Wells led the Eagles with a 1060, good for a 176 average. The remainder of the Beekmantown team included Sabrina Manning, Taylor LaValley, Alyza Agoney, Riley Watts and Paedyn Mattioli.
In addition to Bowman, the Section VII boys’ all-stars consisted of Northeastern Clinton’s Joey Robert and Chris Kokes, Plattsburgh High’s Josh Shaffer, Peru’s Kyle Mendofik and AuSable Valley’s Mike McDonald.
Section XI won the boys’ all-star competition with a 6804. Section VII placed ninth out of 10 sections with a 5823.
The Section VII girls’ all-star team finished nine out of 10 with a 4914 score. Section VI took first place with a 6562.
Ticonderoga’s Jordan McKee rolled a 1065, averaging 177, while Peru’s Brittany Bushey added a 1017, good for a 169 average. McKee’s high game was a 229.
Peru’s Morgan Reyell, Willsboro’s Gabi Yeager, Plattsburgh High’s Brooke Marbut and Emily Rohrig rounded out the team.
Winning Sportsmanship Awards for Section VII were Dwyer, LaValley, Shaffer and McKee.
