FARMINGDALE — Junior Tim Lawrence scored seven points to pace the Plattsburgh State men’s lacrosse team in a 16-6 non-conference win at Farmingdale State Friday afternoon. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 2-0 on the year, while the Rams drop to 0-2.
Plattsburgh State opened the scoring with a goal from Ryan Hastings at 11:22 in the first, before adding an unassisted goal from James Read three minutes later to give the Cardinals a quick 2-0 lead.
After Farmingdale got on the board at 7:42 of the opening stanza with a goal from Matthew Finn, the Cardinals responded with goals from Lawrence and Will Hockenjos to take a three-goal lead. The Rams answered back with two of their own, including a man-up goal from Finn, before the end of the first quarter to cut the Plattsburgh lead to 4-3.
Finn, who scored three goals for the Rams, tied it up at 13:52 of the second but the Cardinals scored the next three to regain the edge. Farmingdale’s Nicholas Mattei brought the Rams within two at the 1:58 mark but that was as close as they would get on this day. Plattsburgh freshman Brendan Damm closed out the first half with a man-up goal at 1:13 to put the Cardinals ahead, 8-5, heading into halftime.
The Cardinals continued to build upon their lead in the third with a pair of goals from Lawrence and one from Kramer to make it 11-5.
The Rams retaliated at 14:05 of the final quarter on a Bobby Thomas goal but five unanswered goals by the Cardinals wrapped up a dominating performance for the Plattsburgh squad.
Lawrence powered the offense with three goals and four assists while Kramer added three goals. Damm tallied three goals in the second quarter and recorded an assist for a four-point afternoon. Brett McClelland also contributed three points.
