Ian Spear lifts Peru over PHS in OT

PERU — Ian Spear’s game-winning one-timer at 6:30 of the first overtime period helped Peru to a 2-1 defeat of Plattsburgh High in boys’ Northern Soccer League action Thursday.

The Hornets opened scoring with an unassisted goal from Chris Gray with just under two minutes remaining in the first half to go up 1-0. The lead was short-lived.

The Indians responded with a marker of their own with just over 14 minutes showing in regulation from Peter Daly with a cross from Jacob Dick.

Spear’s heroics occurred just six-and-a-half minutes after the horn sounded for golden-goal play. Dick made a play down the sideline and centered the ball to Spear, who rocketed a shot past keeper Rob Knowles. Dick finished the match with two assists.

Peru netminder Michael Danis was credited with the win between the pipes, fending off seven shots in a game that featured the Indians leading the shots on goal department 12-11.
