Post 1619 to start golf league

PLATTSBURGH — American Legion Post 1619 is starting a golf league.

Those interested are encouraged to attend the meeting at 4 p.m. April 17 or call 561-8706.

Bowl Mart hosts 9-pin tournament

CHAMPLAIN — Bowl Mart Lanes will be hosting a 9-pin doubles tournament at April 18 at 7:30 p.m.

There will be a “buy a strike” option. If no current average, women will use 140 and men 170.

Finnegan named NAC Player of the Week

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Jena Finnegan, a junior shortstop for the Lyndon State College softball team, has been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Player of the Week of the period ending April 13.

The former AuSable Valley standout opened the 2014 NAC season by hitting .632 (12-for-19) in her first six games. The Keeseville native had a double, a triple, a grand slam home run and two walks to lead the Hornets offense.

She drove in seven runs, while scoring four, boasting an impressive .947 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .682.

SUNYAC announces All-Academic, Commissioner’s List

CORTLAND — The SUNYAC has recognized 49 Plattsburgh State student-athletes on its Fall 2013 All-Academic Team and Commissioner’s List.

To be eligible for SUNYAC All-Academic team recognition, a student-athlete must have a fall semester grade-point average of 3.3 or higher. To be named to the Commissioner’s List, the student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher for three consecutive semesters.

Of the 49 student-athletes who received league academic accolades, 15 were bestowed with both All-Academic (AA) and Commissioner’s List (CL) honors.
