Brockport 16, Plattsburgh High 1

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Hornets didn’t open their 2014 campaign the way they had hoped.

The Class AA Blue Devils (3-0) of Section V, which jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings, pulled away for a 16-1 defeat of the Plattsburgh High.

“We struggled in our first game,” Hornets coach Jim Manchester said. “We did not play well defensively and our pitchers struggled with their command on a sloppy, wet afternoon. I am confident we will improve on our performance.”

Brandon Henshaw paced Brockport with two doubles. Tommy Pauly added a double, while Stephen Sanders belted two singles.

Henshaw was credited with the win. Gerrit Rietsema suffered the loss.

Plattsburgh High accumulated three hits, including four errors in the five-inning game.
