Lefebvre slugs home run, Clinton falls twice

HERKIMER — A long two-run home run by Marcus Lefebvre was one of the few highlights of the day for the Clinton Community College baseball team, which dropped a doubleheader to a strong Herkimer Community College team.

The Generals recorded 22-0 and 15-4 victories, with both games called after five innings due to the run rule.

“We were happy to be outside and it was a great day to play,” Clinton coach Tom Neale said. “But Herkimer is very good — they have strong pitching and hit the ball very well. They went south earlier in the season and they’ve played a lot of games already.”

Lefebvre and Chris Roenbeck had the lone hits for the Cougars (0-4) in the first game. Lefebvre connected for his two-run shot in the fifth inning of the second contest. Adam Goldfarb, Robert Mejia and Dalton Castine also had hits for Clinton.

Kristian Sherman took the pitching loss in the opener and Austin Medeiros was the losing hurler in the nightcap.

The two teams go at it again today in a doubleheader.

“We still have a lot of work to do,” Neale said.
