Local athletes make All-State teams for fall season

PLATTSBURGH — Twenty-nine area athletes competing in four fall sports were awarded All-State honors as selected by the New York State Sports Writers Association.

Tyler Pratt (Moriah), Josh Barriere (Chazy), Kinnan Latremore (Chazy), Rachel Pombrio (Chazy), Jeriqho Gadway (Plattsburgh High) and Margaret Champagne (Seton Catholic) were each named to the First Team in football, soccer and cross country.

Eight athletes received Second-Team recognition, while six were tabbed for the Third Team.

Football

Class B

Second-Team All-Purpose

Zane Bazzano (Peru)- Bazzano accumulated 495 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns while totaling 395 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The senior helped the Indians reach the Section VII Class B championship where they fell to Beekmantown, 33-28. 

Second-Team Linebacker

Taylor Avanzato (Peru)- Avanzato, the league’s Defensive Player of the Year, anchored a Peru defense that surrendered 116 points on the year. The Indians allowed single-digit points in four of its six league games played. 

Third-Team Defensive Lineman

Brennan Pelkey (Beekmantown)- One of the Eagles’ most important team leaders on and off the field, Pelkey was a player who Beekmantown could turn to for a big play and help create productive practices. He helped lead the Eagles to a state quarterfinal appearance. 

Class C

Third-Team Running Back

John Maye (Saranac)- Maye helped the Chiefs to a runner-up finish in Class C. The senior running back led the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference in rushing yards (1,214) and rushing touchdowns (17) while finishing second in scoring with 110 points. 

Class D

First-Team Offensive End

Tyler Pratt (Moriah)- Pratt had a stellar senior season, helping the Vikings reach the NYSPHSAA Class D semifinals. Pratt snagged 31 catches for 680 yards and five touchdowns, good for a 21.9 yards per catch average. 

Second-Team Quarterback

Cole Gaddor (Moriah)- Gaddor led the section in passing yards (1,594) and completions (87). He finished his career 10th all-time in career passing yards with 2,755.
