Patriots, Hornets reach Class C final

— The Section VII Class C volleyball semifinals held true to form Thursday night, with top-seeded AuSable Valley and second-seeded Plattsburgh High advancing to the finals with 3-0 shutouts of Saranac and Northeastern Clinton, respectively.

The Patriots and Hornets will tangle for the C championship at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Clinton Community College.

PLATTSBURGH 3, NORTHEASTERN CLINTON 0

PLATTSBURGH — Kianna Dragoon finished with 19 assists and 14 points for the Hornets, who won by scores of 25-12, 25-15, 25-18.

Sam Martin added a team-high 16 points, while Deanna LaBarge contributed six kills and seven digs and Victoria Herkalo had eight points.

“Sam Martin and Kianna Dragoon served well, and Dragoon had an overall good night,” Plattsburgh coach Shae LaPorte said. “All the hitters contributed to a great offensive match.”

The Cougars were led by Brianna McCoy’s 10 points, three aces, two kills, five blocks and four digs. Ashley McCoy also finished with two kills.

CLINTONVILLE — Miranda Sheffer accounted for 18 points, nine aces, three kills and 15 assists while helping to lead the Patriots to a 25-8, 25-10, 25-13 victory.

Noelle Miller contributed 12 kills and five points, Jocelyn Racette 15 points and Mirissa O’Neill 10 points and six kills for AuSable Valley.

“Tonight was a great team effort,” AuSable Valley coach Sandra Hoey said. “The girls came out strong and set the tone early. My setters, Mirissa O’Neill and Miranda Sheffer, made great decisions tonight, and Noelle Miller was hot offensively.

“The girls are excited and privileged to have the opportunity to defend their sectional title.”

Fourth-seeded Saranac received strong performances Loni LaPoint and Anna Dorrance.
