WESTPORT — The Elizabethtown-Lewis boys’ soccer team received two late goals from Joel Morris Monday.
Morris’ second of two tallies at 9:42 of sudden-death overtime helped the Lions get past Westport in dramatic fashion in Northern Soccer League play, 2-1.
After a corner kick, John Doyle helped the Eagles open scoring on an unassisted goal at 9:56 of the first half.
With 15:31 gone in the second 40-minute stanza, Elizabethtown-Lewis was awarded a penalty kick following a hand ball. Morris tied the game at 1-all, sending the game into an extra session.
After outshooting Westport 18-4, Morris’ game-winning goal helped the Lions to victory.
“Lloyd Staats and John Doyle had strong defensive performances to compliment Sam Napper’s outstanding work in goal for Westport,” Eagles coach Michael Davis said. “Zac Noka-Bailey played a great game at sweeper for Elizabethtown.”
Justin LaPier made two stops between the pipes for Elizabethtown-Lewis, while Westport keeper Sam Napper made 13 saves in the one-goal loss.
