Joseph's hat trick leads North Country

SARANAC LAKE — Winterson Joseph, Jaime Flores-Castellon and Kyle Tander combined for seven goals as the North Country Community College men’s soccer team rolled to a 7-0 blanking of Word of Life Tuesday.

“We’re coming off a couple tough regional losses to Herkimer and Adirondack, so it was nice to get some confidence and see the ball get into the back of the net,” Saints coach Adam diVincenzo said.

Joseph and Flores-Castellon helped North Country jump out to a 4-0 lead before Tander capitalized on a penalty kick with two seconds remaining in the first half.

Joseph picked up his hat-trick goal at 1:21 of the second half, while Tander got his second tally at 32:07.

“Everybody got minutes, so it was great,” diVincenzo said. “It’s always good when everybody contributes. It was a great team win. We worked on some stuff that we need to get better at. It was a good game for us.”

Beau Stanford picked up the shutout win in net, saving eight shots for the Saints.

“He wasn’t tested too much,” diVincenzo said. “Toward the end of the second half, they put one just over the crossbar, and he was up to the task. He played a good game. He’s the anchor for our defense.”

North Country plays host to SUNY Delhi Oct. 5.
