Dave Daniels leads the way as Beekmantown edges PHS 21-26 in the first cross-country meet for the two schools.

50 YEARS AGO (1963)

Dave Lamora scores on runs of 23 and 20 yards to spark PHS to a 27-13 win over Moriah. Dick Thiesen and Dennis Raymond score for the Vikings.

Butch Thomas tallies 3 times as Elizabethtown-Lewis downs Crown Point 5-0 to remain unbeaten in soccer. Warren White and David Denton also score.

Ralph Manners and Wayne Lutkenhaus lead the way as Plattsburgh State gets off to a 3-0 start in cross country.

Mike Cooper scores with 2 seconds left to lift unbeaten Dannemora to a 3-2 victory over Ellenburg in CVL soccer. Tom King gets 2 goals for the Black Knights while J. Decosse scores for the Eagles.

Jeff Gebo scores a touchdown and adds the PAT as OLVA edges St. John’s 7-6 for its 10th consecutive victory. Harry Canning scores for the Irish.

60 YEARS AGO (1953)

Port Henry, behind Billy Loes, defeats Mineville and Johnny Podres, 2-0, in an exhibition baseball game at Grover Hills Athletic Field featuring the two Brooklyn Dodgers pitchers. Loes, who strikes out 17 and walks three, contributes an RBI double while Podres, who fans 11 with 3 walks, is victimized by 3 Mineville errors. Each pitcher allows 4 hits.

Loren Bullis of Westport is elected president of the Section VII Sports Council. Howard Page of Lake Placid is elected secretary and Kenneth Housner of Port Henry the treasurer.

Bob Jessey and Don Rabideau each score 2 goals with Tom Giroux, Harry Merrill and Chuck McGee adding one apiece to lead Peru to a 15-2 win over Morrisonville in soccer. Bob Ledwith adds a point on a penalty kick. Davis scores for Morrisonville.
