Indians' depth leads to win over Beekmantown

PERU — Beekmantown’s Alyssa Leonard continued to dominate Friday by winning the all-around and all four individual events.

But, it was Peru’s depth that led the Indians to a 148.7-146.8 victory over the Eagles in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference gymnastics.

The two squads have now split this season as Beekmantown took a 158.25-156.95 win to start the season.

“Alyssa Leonard continued her winning streak with victories in all four events and the all-around,” Peru coach Krista Brown said. “Despite Beekmantown finishing with the top three all-around, Peru’s superior depth carried them to victory.”

Lydia Gricoski took second in the all-around, and also had a second-place finish in the vault for the Eagles. Erica Leonard added a third-place finish in the all-around. She also took third in the beam and the bars.

Alexandra Brown was the top overall performer for the Indians with a fourth-place finish in the all-around. She was second in the bars and tied for third in the vault with teammate Justin Dick. Molly Lawliss placed sixth in the all-around.

Kailey Quackenbush showed tremendous heart for Beekmantown. She was injured on the bars, but toughed it out and was able to compete the final two events.

The two teams will meet one last time during the regular season on Oct. 7 when Beekmantown travels to Peru.
