Clinton CC men in for long afternoon

PLATTSBURGH — It was a long day — a very long day — for the Clinton Community College men’s soccer team Sunday.

Powerful Herkimer Community College scored six goals in the first 22 minutes of the game and rolled to a 9-1 victory.

“We packed it in defensively, but they were still able to go around us,” Clinton coach Gene Bushey said. “They are solid and deep all around and were just too good for us.”

Jermaine Windster tallied three goals, while Jimmy Calderon added two and Brian Coyt one to stake the unbeaten Generals (5-0) to their early 6-0 advantage.

Kyle McCarthy, with Zach Brockway assisting, then put the Cougars on the board at the 39:32 mark, making it 6-1.

However, Preston Higgins, MacIntyre Felton and Mitsuru Takayashiki added to the goal scoring for Herkimer in the final 45 minutes.

The Generals, who have 35 players on the roster, held a commanding 45-7 advantage in shots on goal.

“They pretty much dominated the entire game,” Bushey said.

Adam Goldfarb (4) and Brandon Rabideau (20) combined for 24 saves in net for Clinton. Triston Henry and former Chazy standout Austin Santor combined to make four stops in the Herkimer nets.

The Cougars host Adirondack Community College on Thursday night at 6:45 p.m.
