Eagles suffocate Hornets' offense in shutout

“The last two weeks, we’ve been focusing on the things we need to get done on defense,” Lozier said. “Everybody did a great job. We had a bunch of people coming in at different times.”

Stevens opened second-half scoring with his second and final end zone appearance of the game at 5:59. Tyler Myers extended the differential to 41 with his first touchdown of the young season, a six-yard score.

Tyler Newman also registered his first touchdown of the year on an eight-yard scamper at 3:25 of the fourth quarter.

Fessette, who ran for 132 yards and one touchdown against Saranac in Week 2, finished with 62 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns Friday.

D’Andre Lemieux paced Plattsburgh High on offense, going 2-for-9 with 26 yards through the air. Ryan Desrocher caught each of Lemieux’s completed passes.

The Eagles play host to Peru in a rematch of last year’s Section VII Class B championship at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 28.

“(The) Peru-Beekmantown rivalry is huge,” Lozier said. “The fact that they’ve beaten us the past few years in a row, we’re hungry and we’re due. We match up with Peru.

“We have speed just like they do, we have a big line just like they do, we have good running backs like they do and we have a good quarterback like they do. So it’s going to be who plays the better game.”

Beekmantown had its season end with a 48-0 loss at the Apple Bowl last October.

“That 48-0 loss last year, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth,” Stevens said. “We’ll be ready.”
