Smith helps Chiefs defeat Indians in three games

SARANAC — Cassie Smith had 10 points and three kills to help power Saranac to a 3-0 victory over Peru in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference volleyball Thursday.

The Chiefs won 25-19, 25-18, 25-22.

Anna Dorrance also served 10 points, including three aces, for Saranac, while Kayla Byerley had eight points and four aces.

Lea Perry led Peru with 11 points, three aces and eight assists. Maddie Kaplan added four digs and six kills, while Taylor Higgins had seven points, five digs and three kills.

BEEKMANTOWN — Shannon Ryan served 20 points, including six aces, and added nine kills and four digs to help the Eagles sweep the Blue Bombers.

Michaela LaFountain had 16 assists and four digs for Beekmantown, and Evelyn Vicencio contributed eight points and four digs. Molly King chipped in six digs, while Grace Kelly served seven points and five aces.

Lake Placid’s Alexis Megliore had four digs, while Kiana Fell had four assists. Brenna Garrett slammed down three kills, and Melissa Rath had two.

SARANAC LAKE — Miranda Sheffer had a strong all-around match with 22 points, 20 aces, five digs and 10 assists to lead the Patriots to a sweep.

Noelle Miller contributed eight points, four aces and seven kills, and Shelby Bourgeois had four kills.

Samantha Martin had three points, two aces and three digs for Saranac Lake, and Brittany Woodruff also had three digs.

CHAMPLAIN — The Hornets and Cougars split the first two games, but then Plattsburgh won 25-22 and 25-16 to close out the match.

Ashley LaVenture served 15 points for Northeastern Clinton, Aryana Kellison came up with nine digs and Amanda Tallon added five points, four kills and 20 assists.
