Cougars continue strong start to season

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton Community College men’s basketball team continued to roll Tuesday.

The Cougars (5-1, 3-1 Region III) had four players finish in double figures in their 68-41 rout of Word of Life Bible Institute.

“It was not a work of art by any stretch of the imagination,” Clinton coach Kevin Daugherty said. “We appeared to be kind of flat. We had a couple sparks from time to time when we got it going defensively. Overall, it wasn’t one of our best performances. Everybody got plenty of playing time.”

Mykelle Krecko (13), Bayron Carter (12), Jalik Banks (12) and Kyree Hull (10) combined for 47 of the team’s 68 points.

Krecko and Carter each reached double-double status, recording 10 and 11 rebounds, respectively.

Daugherty said Banks was a key contributor.

“He had a nice ballgame,” Daugherty said. “Jalik added six rebounds, four steals and three assists to go along with 12 points.”

Zeke Kokosinki was the high-point man for Word of Life, firing 12 points.

Through six games, the Cougars are off to a hot start.

Clinton is averaging 77 points per game and is 3-1 in Region III play. Its lone setback was an 11-point defeat at home to Herkimer Community College, the third-ranked team in the country.

The team will travel Tompkins-Cortland Community College Saturday before challenging Broome Community College Sunday.

“Now, we’ve got three practices to get prepared for this weekend,” Daugherty said. “Region III games are always significant.”
