Marshall, Cards sweep past Union

Ashley Marshall earned the complete-game win, striking out 11, walking one and allowing four hits. Gay went 2-for-3 for Plattsburgh.

Union’s Allyson Staats gave up five hits in the loss.

“The pitcher for Union was pretty good, so I think our hitters did a good job, and we were able to get the lead and hold it,” Diemer said.

Plattsburgh head coach Stephanie Zweig missed Tuesday’s games due to an illness.

The Cardinals play their home opener Saturday against Oswego and then host rival Cortland on Sunday (both doubleheaders were pushed back a day due to the weather forecast).

“Those were two big wins, and we really had to fight for them, so I think the momentum will carry over to the weekend,” Diemer said.
