Massena’s Walt Szydlowski beats Harry Auer of Lake Placid in the championship match of the Northern New York 8-Ball Tournament. Kevin Fournia of Dannemora tops Jim O’Brien of Rouses Point for third place.
Beekmantown’s David Rabideau, fourth in the state tournament, is named CVAC Wrestler of the Year while AuSable Valley’s Pat Kivett is selected Coach of the Year. Dan Yando is the Official of the Year while Kenny Baker of AuSable Valley is the Sportsman of the Year.
John Stevenson of Durgan’s Fitness Center wins the arm-wrestling tournament at The Ball Club in Plattsburgh.
Tentative approval is given to a merger of the Marcy and Mountain & Valley athletic conferences.

Freshman Shannon Andrews averages 7.5 points a game while contributing 71 rebounds and 87 assists for Keuka College, which finishes the women’s basketball season at 24-3.
Anne Winterkorn of the Bay Club Waves finishes first in the 1,650-yard freestyle and fourth in the 500 freestyle for the 15-18 age group at the Adirondack Region Junior Olympics. Jackie Speer comes in fourth in the 1,6500 freestyle for girls 13-14.
Craig King, who averages 18 points a game for St. John’s, will continue his basketball career at Plattsburgh State.
