A-C North announces weekly schedule

PLATTSBURGH — The Ameri-Can North Sports Center has announced its schedule for the week.

Stick-n-puck will occur from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Sunday.

A public skating session will occur from 2:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Sunday.

Chazy U-19 set to defend title

AMHERST — The Chazy U-19 girls’ hockey team will once again be competing at the national level and defend their championship win from a year ago.

The Flyers will be competing at the U-19 Tier II national level in Amherst April 2 to 6. Chazy qualified for the national tournament by winning sectionals that were held in Saranac Lake, which qualified them for the New York State tournament in Rochester.

In Saranac Lake, the girls defeated Adirondack and tied Potsdam to make the qualification. In Rochester, the Flyers were victorious in all four games they competed in as well as the final.

Chazy went on to defeat Tompkins-Ithaca, the Buffalo Hornets, the Island Waves, Cazenovia and met Buffalo again in the finals, winning in double overtime, 5-4.

Team members include Zoe Shannon, Elizabeth King, Abbey Nolan, Kayleigh Daniels, Maura Mulligan, Clara Giroux, Kiley Regan, Emily Raville, Jessica Huber, Lauren O’Connor, McKayla Duffy, Jillian Martin, Kallie Villemaire, Holly Zeldenrust and coaches Mike King and Willie Giroux.

Lake Placid announced scholar-athlete state champion

PLATTSBURGH — The NYSPHSAA has announced state champion scholar-athlete teams for the winter 2013-14 sports season.

Teams earned the title “state champion” by having their varsity team members earn the highest academic average in their sport. Scholar-athlete state champions were honored with a banner for their school as well as a certificate and pins for each team member.

With a cumulative 95.76 average, Lake Placid was dubbed state champions for boys’ ice hockey.
