PSU baseball games set for today

CORTLAND — Thanks to the latest round of wintry weather, the SUNYAC baseball series featuring Plattsburgh State and SUNY Cortland has been postponed once again.

The Cardinals and Red Dragons will head to Cornell University in Ithaca to engage in a conference doubleheader beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Monday.

Lake Placid scholar-athlete state champion 

ALBANY — The NYSPHSAA has announced state champion scholar-athlete teams for the winter 2013-14 sports season.

Teams earned the title “state champion” by having their varsity team members earn the highest academic average in their sport. Scholar-athlete state champions were honored with a banner for their school as well as a certificate and pins for each team member.

With a cumulative 95.76 average, Lake Placid was dubbed state champions for boys’ ice hockey.

The Blue Bombers were the lone Section VII representative of the 12 winter sports state champions.

Lemza claims 50 breaststroke at Gold meet 

TROY — The Lake Champlain Waves swim team sent 15 swimmers to the annual Gold Championships held at the Robison Pool at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute March 14-16.

The Waves were represented by Andie Abdallah, Olivia Barnett, Stella Boolukos-Brinker, Isabella Brown, Lucianna Brown, Lydia Brown, Wyatt Brown, Spencer Hall, Brooke Kelley, Madeline Lemza, Allison McCormick, Emily McCormick, Nicholas Nowosielski, Zackary Raymond and Bailey VanArman.

Lemza placed first overall in the 50 breaststroke (9 and 10 year old age group).

Two other Waves swimmers placed in the top 10 overall. VanArman registered a top-10 performance for the boys, while Kelley garnered six top-10 finishes on the girls side.

Watts rolls 845 series in Industrial League

PLATTSBURGH — Mike Watts, bowling for North Bowl Restaurant in the Thursday Industrial League at North Bowl Lanes on March 27, tossed a 299-267-279-845 series. He carries a 235 league average.

Duprey tosses 300 in Industrial League

PLATTSBURGH — Chad Duprey, bowling for the Sons of the American Legion in the Thursday Industrial League at North Bowl Lanes on March 27, rolled a 300 game and finished the evening with a 300-255-178-733 series.
