PSU softball games washed out

CLERMONT, Fla. — Due to heavy rain, the Plattsburgh State softball team was forced to cancel its games against McDaniel College and Western Connecticut State Monday.

As of now, there are no plans to reschedule the two games.

The Cardinals will take the day off Tuesday before returning to the diamond for another pair of tilts Wednesday. Plattsburgh will begin the day by playing Eastern Connecticut State at 9 a.m. before finishing things up with an 11 a.m. bout against Fontbonne University.

Damm, Hauk collect SUNYAC awards

CORTLAND — It was a clean sweep of the weekly SUNYAC lacrosse awards by Plattsburgh State as sophomore Brendan Damm and senior Andrew Hauk were named the league’s Player of the Week and Goalie of the Week, respectively.

In his second year as a collegian, Damm leads all SUNYAC student-athletes in both goals (13) and goals per game (2.6). The Montauk product helped the Cardinals secure wins in both of their tilts last week by pumping in seven goals and adding a pair of assists.

On March 11 at Morrisville State, Damm netted five of the Cardinals’ 13 goals during their 13-7 triumph over the Mustangs. He was also responsible for two of Plattsburgh’s four assists in the win and took a game-high 13 shots.

Damm added his final two goals of the week during the Cardinals’ 9-7 triumph over Haverford College Saturday.

Hauk has been the goalie of record for each of the Cardinals’ six games this season and added two more triumphs to his 2014 total last week. The final-year man out of Sackets Harbor stopped 13 shots in each of Plattsburgh’s two contests last week and ranks second in the SUNYAC in saves per game (9.0).

Plattsburgh (5-1) returns to action Wednesday at noon when it tangles with Connecticut College in Arnold, Md.
