10 YEARS AGO (2004)

Dustin Blockson scores 13 points as Saranac tops Adirondack 58-40 in the first round of the state Class B boys’ basketball tournament. The Chiefs lose to Ogdensburg,  69-64, in overtime, the next day after leading by 7 in the second half. Sophomore Devin Ray scores 25 points, picks up 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.

Tupper Lake’s Josh Dupuis takes second in the shot put at the National Scholastic Indoor Track & Field Championships with a throw of 59 feet, 5 inches.

Plattsburgh High sophomore Kenna Nash wins the Eastern Freestyle Combined Championship in skiing.

Lake Placid’s Lowell Bailey, skiing for the University of Vermont, earns All-American honors with a second-place finish in the 10K freestyle in the NCAA Championships.

Dane Ellerton’s 2 goals and an assist spark Seton Catholic to a 4-3 come-from-behind win over Shenendehowa in the state boys’ Div. I hockey semifinals. The Knights fall to Williamsville North 5-2 in the final.

Beekmantown drops a 5-2 decision to Salmon River in the state boys’ Div. II hockey semifinals.

20 YEARS AGO (1994)

Saranac Lake loses to eventual state champ Bishop Ludden, 83-47, in the state Class C semifinals. Matt Bruce scores 10 points and Jeremy Bell, 9, for Saranac Lake.

Malone standout Missy West is named most valuable player of the Press-Republican girls’ basketball team. She is joined on the first team by Jody Bigalow of Crown Point,

Westport’s Mika Conley, Ann Parks of Saranac and Schroon Lake’s Becca Robinson.

Bob Wilkins bowls games of 290, 255 and 257 for an 802 series at Riverside Lanes.

25 YEARS AGO (1989)

Former St. John’s standout Jim Supple of the University of Delaware places second in the triple jump at the East Coast Conference Indoor Championships with a leap of 47 feet, 5½ inches.

Siena, coached by former Plattsburgh State Assistant Mike Deane, shocks nationally ranked Stanford 87-78 in the first round of the NCAA playoffs. Siena falls to Minnesota 80-67 in the next round.
