10 YEARS AGO (2002)

E Freshman Kristen Jodoin of Plattsburgh scores 3 goals and adds 5 assists for the season in helping Elmira College capture the first ever NCAA Div. III Women's Hockey Championship.

▶ Missy Darrah and Tracy Mitchell hurl complete-game victories for Plattsburgh State in a doubleheader sweep of the Merchant Marine Academy. Randi Johnson, Jenny Reyell and Carrie Clement are the hitting stars. Later, Lisa Marlow tosses a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over SUNY Brockport.

▶ MVP Randy Alexander nets 21 points, Claude Doran adds 18 and Ricky Voley and Dwight Walton chip in with 13 apiece as United Sports Council out of Montreal defeats Pepsi/Lum's 91-88 to win the 35th PBA Basketball Tournament. Corey Osinski hits for 29 points for Pepsi and Mike Ogbon, 27.

▶ Plattsburgh State drops a 2-1 decision to Skidmore College in its first baseball game in 26 years. The Cardinals rebound behind the pitching of Mike Bergman and hitting of Joe Brand and Jason Deshaies to win the second game 6-4.

▶ Jason Lappies scores the tieing and winning goals as Plattsburgh State stuns nationally ranked Clarkson University 8-5 in lacrosse.

20 YEARS AGO (1992)

E McSweeney's sweeps the regular season and playoff titles in the Midas Adult Basketball League with a cast that includes Tom Ryan, Dale Favreau, Gary Fessette, Mike Rascoe, Scott Beebie, Robin Vaughan, Bryan Foster and Tom Lacey.

▶ Plattsburgh's Chris Provost, in her second year of competition, scores 424 out of a possible 445 to place second in Women's Bowhunter Freestyle at the New York State Archery Championships.

▶ MVP Derrick Rowland pours in 34 points and Elander Lewis chips in with 31 as Copper Penny from Albany defeats Montreal-based United Sports Council 100-99 to win the PBA Basketball Tournament. Ashley Smith tallies 25 to lead USC while Dwight Walton adds 24 and Donald Juhn, 20.

25 YEARS AGO (1987)

E Matt Fitzpatrick and Todd Dame each score 16 points while Sean Hopkins contributes 14 points and 16 rebounds as Murphy's Insurance tops St. John Bosco 56-46 to win the Franklin CYO Basketball League crown. Mike Marion leads St. John Bosco with 18 points while Mike Dumas nets 13.

▶ Four-year soccer standout Karen Wiley and hockey's Dave Piromalli, who put up 121 goals and 248 points, are honored as Plattsburgh State Athletes of the Year for 1986-87.

▶ Mike Boulrice delivers an RBI single and Gary Peryea, an RBI double, as Northern Adirondack nips South Glens Falls 2-1 for a split of their doubleheader. Jerry Kowalowski scatters 5 hits for the win. Eric Gibson and Jamie Labarge combine on a 5-hitter in the opener, but 7 errors lead to a 5-4 loss.

30 YEARS AGO (1982)

▶ Sophomore Joe Podres pitches 4 innings of no-hit ball and Dan Scoresome and Doug Anson follow with 3 innings of 3-hit ball as Moriah wallops Hadley-Luzerne 13-0 in preseason action. Pete Mazzotte goes 3-for-4 for the Vikings while John Langey is 2-for-3. Marty Nephew knocks in 3 runs.

▶ Rachel Hayworth (ages 9-11) and Julie McClure (12-14) qualify for the New York State Gymnastics championships.

▶ Dave Martinovich is named varsity football coach at Mount Assumption, succeeding Paul Vallieres. Bill Santamore, Kevin Rock and Blake Frechette are chosen as assistants.

40 YEARS AGO (1972)

▶ Pete Huru and Steve Frennier score goals as the Plattsburgh North Country Hockey League All-Stars tie St. Vincent 2-2 in Montreal. John Zelinski shines in goal for the All-Stars.

▶ Jacques Giroux of Rouses Point is named Most Valuable Player of the Champlain Border Hockey League. Roger Giroux of Beekmantown is the league's leading scorer with 29 goals, 19 assists in 13 games while teammate Steve LaPointe is the top goalie. Iva Guay, also of Beekmantown, earns the Good Sportsman Award.

▶ Calvin Miller, John Adams, Tom Prinsen, Pam Quilliam, Mary Beth Gagnier, Danny Munson and Nancy Harris qualify for the New York State Junior Bowling Championships.

50 YEARS AGO (1962)

▶ Keeseville sweeps the 4 trophies awarded in the Section VII bowling championships. Tom Hart bowls the high game (240) and Jerry Laundree, the high series (628). David Mussen chips in with a 544 triple.

▶ Beverly Guyette, 14, finishes second in singles with a 220 in the Plattsburgh Women's Bowling Association Tournament. Guyette finishes with a 592 series, but an arm operation keeps the teen from participating in all event. Faye Condo captures all events with a 1,565 total.

60 YEARS AGO (1952)

▶ Big Ed Kolakowski scores 20 points, Billy Harrell hits for 14 and Glenn Bissell adds 13 to lead the Siena All-Stars to a 72-54 victory over The Varsity in Platttsburgh. Ed Donchey nets 13 points to lead The Varsity, coached by Gus Perna.

70 YEARS AGO (1942)

▶ LaBarge scores 12 points and Burke, 5, to lead St. Peter's to a 23-14 win over the YMCA in the Church League basketball final. Rich Golden, B. O'Connell and Scheier each net 4 points for the YMCA.
