Branham, then rain win at Airborne

SOUTH PLATTSBURGH — Bucko Branham of Plattsburgh beat Jamy Begor to the line by half a car-length to win the Furniture World of Vermont Limited Late Model 25-lap trophy dash at Airborne Speedway Saturday.

The Ernie’s Tools Modified feature was red-flagged for rain and lightning 10 laps into their event. The Modifieds needed three tries to get the race rolling. Two incidents brought out the yellow and sent four cars to the pits before pole sitter George Foley jumped out to an early lead. Foley was tracked down by Todd Stone of Middlebury, who had advanced several positions during the earlier crashes. Stone, Foley and Patrick Dupree were running 1-2-3 when the race was stopped.

Branham had spent several laps inside Begor, who led him to the line by a wheel for five laps before a caution flew on lap 23 just after Branham had gained the lead and Robin Wood edged Begor to the stripe. Branham and Wood lined up for the two-lap shootout. When the cars touched in turn two on the final lap, Begor snuck back into second with Wood third, Danny Sullivan fourth and Shawn Duquette fifth.

The Key RD Trailer Sales Renegades were scheduled to go 100 laps. Make-up dates will be announced in the near future.

Foley, Jessey Mueller and Mike Reyell won the Modified heats. Robert Gordon of Milton, VT and Tylor Terry of Morrisonville won the Renegade heats.
