Foote captured the win on the mound, striking out nine and allowing two hits. Groshans struck out four in relief over two innings.
“Pitching wise they threw a great game,” Pertak said. “Not giving up walks with a wet field was important, but we also played smart defensively.
“Offensively we hit the ball well and ran the bases well. This was one of the best games we have played this year; it’s nice to see them peaking at this point.”
Jorge Bertomeau and Justin Viele had the lone hits of the game for Minerva/Newcomb. Wesley Labar suffered the loss on the mound.

CHAZY — Top-seeded Chazy scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning and advanced to the Class D semifinals where it will play either Moriah or Wells on Tuesday afternoon. Friday’s game was called after 4½ innings due to rain.
Winning pitcher Josh Peete tossed the shutout as he allowed two hits, struck out seven and walked four. Peete also helped himself offensively with a single, double and two RBI.
Nathan Reynolds finished with a single, triple and two RBI, while Kyle Bisonette added a single, double and three RBI. Craig Botten chipped in with two hits and Hayden Guay contributed a double. Chazy finished with 11 hits in all.
John Doyle rapped a double and Sam Napper added a single for the lone Westport hits. Dylan Limlaw was the losing pitcher.
