Douglas named football all-star
Shane Douglas of AuSable Valley made the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference football all-star team. The cornerback was recognized on the Second-Team Defense. His name was misspelled in Tuesday’s Press-Republican.
Plattsburgh F.C. has openings for boys’ travel teams
PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh F.C. has limited roster openings on its U9, U10, and U11 boys’ travel teams for the spring 2014 season.
Plattsburgh F.C. provides instructional and competitive soccer opportunities for dedicated soccer players in the North Country. Top level college and scholastic coaches train the players during the winter indoor sessions and spring travel season which runs from mid-April until early July. The teams train two times per week locally and compete in competitive travel leagues and tournaments in New York and Vermont area.
Interested players can attend one of the indoor training sessions on Mondays from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Crete Center. Contact program director at email@example.com.
YMCA offering junior indoor soccer leagues
PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh YMCA is offering a junior indoor soccer league for boys and girls ages 4 to 7 at the YMCA gym.
The program is divided into two divisions: Kickers (ages 4 and 5) and Dribblers (ages 6 and 7). The program runs fro 4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. once a week (Tuesday or Thursday) for the Kickers and from 4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. during the week (Monday or Friday) for the Dribblers.
This instructional league is designed to be a fun, family activity, while learning how to play soccer. Registration can be done at the YMCA at 17 Oak Street. Children from all area communities are welcome to participate.
The practice/games will run for one hour for eight weeks, beginning the week of Feb. 3. Children will receive a t-shirt uniform and a trophy. Volunteer coaches are needed for this program. Snowmobile races set for Airborne Speedway
PLATTSBURGH – High-performance snowmobile racers from Canada, New York and New England will compete at Airborne Speedway over a course of jumps, bumps and table tops in the first event of the International Triple Crown Series, East Coast Snocross (ECS), Jan. 18 and 19.
The three-race series includes Pro and Pro-Lite riders from East Coast Snocross presented by Amsoil and Woody’s Traction and the Quebec-based Super Competition Motorsport Tour.
Gates open at 10:30 a.m. Daily admission can be purchased at the gate: $12 for adults; $5 for kids 8 to 12; ages 7 and under free.
Snocross is a form of snowmobile racing, much like the sport of motocross except on snow. East Coast Snocross is the new sanctioning body for snowmobile racing in the northeastern United States.
Lake Champlain Waves compete in swim meet in Troy
TROY — The Lake Champlain Waves Swim Team sent 24 swimmers to the annual Starfish Trophy Invitational Swim Meet Jan. 3 to 5.
The Waves were represented by Andie Abdallah, Olivia Barnett, Sydney Barnett, Stella Boolukos-Brinker, Lydia Brown, Madeline Dame, Kelly Davey, Meghan Davey, Spencer Hall, Sydney Hampston, Alexis Kelley, Brooke Kelley, Caroline Kirkey, Avery Kuhn, Allison McCormick, Emily McCormick, Mikaela Raymond, Zackary Raymond, Killyan Ruff, Alison Silver, Kennedy Spriggs, Kent Vaccaro, Bailey VanArman, and Tristen VanArman.
Brooke Kelley placed in the top 10 in seven out of the eight events she raced in; Tristen VanArman for the 200 butterfly; Bailey VanArman for the 50 breaststroke; and the relay team of Allison McCormick, Sydney Barnett, Alison Silver and Olivia Barnett for the 100 freestyle.
Wellness Center holding strength training clinic
PLATTSBURGH — The Wellness Center at PARC will be hosting a free Strength Training 101 Clinic. This clinic will be for anyone interested in learning the basics of strength training and may be intimidated by the weight room.
Certified ACSM Personal Trainer Kevin Kilkeary will be instructing the clinic on Jan. 22 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. All are welcome. Call 324-2024 to register.
