Khater leads NCCS over NAC in boys' hoops

CHAMPLAIN — Northeastern Clinton had a strong second quarter as it pulled away from Northern Adirondack for a 52-44 victory in boys’ Northern Basketball League action Monday.

The Cougars outscored the Bobcats 19-6 in the second. Northern Adirondack held a lead through the other three quarters, 38-33.

Adam Khater was the game’s leading scorer with 17 points for Northeastern Clinton. Jon Filion and Austin Tetreault each added 10 points, while Rodney Grimshaw finished with eight.

“Adam Khater was the leader for our team tonight with a solid performance on both ends of the court,” Cougars coach Robb Garrand said. “Brady Smart did a nice job keeping the ball alive (for the Bobcats). Josh Juntunen provided NAC with a solid opening to the game — nailing down two 3-pointers — and Bailey Cross made some nice plays.”

Smart finished with 12 points for Northern Adirondack. Juntunen and Cross each tallied nine points.

Saranac Lake 45,Plattsburgh 33

SARANAC LAKE — After a tight first half, the Red Storm pulled past the Hornets in the second half for the win.

Saranac Lake outscored Plattsburgh 25-15 in the second half.

“In the first half the teams played fairly even with Saranac Lake leading throughout,” Red Storm coach Frank Johns said. “Saranac Lake got a jump on Plattsburgh in the third quarter and in the final quarter Plattsburgh got within five points but could not get any closer.”

Jenny Ward led the charge for the Red Storm with 18 points. Selena Baillargeon and Katie Buckley each added nine points, while Katelyn Hewitt finished with seven.

Ashley Marlow paced the Hornets with nine points. Shea Frady chipped in with seven and Lee Cyphers, six.
