Eagles clamp down on defense, beat Massena

MASSENA — The Beekmantown girls’ basketball team jumped out to a 27-2 first-quarter lead and never looked back Saturday.

Shannon Ryan finished with a game-high 21 points, helping the Eagles to a 75-18 defeat of Massena in nonleague play.

Kenna Guynup (17), Emily Anderson (13) and Grace Kelly (11) combined for 41 points in the win.

“We put forth a great team effort on defense, holding them to single digits in scoring each quarter,” Beekmantown coach Greg Waters said.

Kenna Guynup paced the Eagles from long range, knocking down two 3-pointers.

LAKE PLACID — After a low scoring first three quarters, the Orange outscored the Blue Bombers, 18-13, in the fourth quarter for a victory in Northern Basketball League nonleague play.

Shannon Farrell was the star of the game as she tossed in 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds, recorded 12 steals and blocked four shots for Indian Lake/Long Lake. Lily Dechene was also a factor in the victory with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Adele Jesmer finished with 13 points and Alexis Megliore eight for Lake Placid. Hanna Potter added 10 rebounds, three blocks and three assists.
